To RENT or to BUY your Wedding Decor?

If you are planning a wedding or other big event, chances are you will come to the To Rent or To Buy crossroad. This can be a challenging decision, so let's dive in and explore the 5 reasons why you should consider RENTING over buying! Full disclosure... I am a bit biased since I am a rental company after all... but I believe in these 5 reasons enough to take the plunge and follow my dreams and open Unique and Chic Rentals to help brides make their big day a little more special (and less stressful)!

Reason #1-  Less Stress!!

Less stress is the MOST important reason! Yes, even more than the bottom line. Because, really, your sanity is priceless! DIY is so popular these days because it can help save on cost and give you that warm and fuzzy feeling knowing that all your love and attention went into every detail. I'll admit, I was also romanticized by the DIY dreams for my own wedding. This is why I can testify that your sanity and your future spouse's sanity are PRICELESS! (Let's put it this way, if I mention my glorious fuchsia ombre hand dyed coffee filter poof ball garland around my husband, still 4 years later, I can see him physically tense up). I have to say, those poof balls sound crazy now, but when that sparkling ring hits that finger all common sense catches the first flight to DIY crazy land... Don't fall victim to the DIY crazies!

To find a good balance I recommend choosing one or two aspects of your wedding to DIY such as favors for the guests, centerpieces, or a cute photo display telling your love story. Then find a rental company who carry items to compliment your unique wedding style.

Reason #2- Renting is often more Cost Effective

You may not know that renting can often times be less expensive than buying the items. We (Unique & Chic) typically price items for less than what it costs to buy them. Renting may even allow you to include unique pieces that you wouldn't have otherwise been able to buy or make yourself. If you do buy, it is possible to recoup some of the cost by selling the items after the wedding... if you're up for the challenge. Just remember, reselling may require significant amounts of your time posting ads on sites like craigslist or FaceBook, and then you have to deal with coordinating meeting up with prospective buyers and hope that they are not flakes (I would recommend meeting in a public location and NOT at your own house). It can turn out to be a lot more of a headache than it is worth!

Reason #3- Storage... where does it all go!

This is one aspect most people do not consider. If you choose to buy, where will you put it all before and after the wedding? Again, take it from me, once your big day is over the last thing you are going to want to do is transport and store all those lovely items (husbands are not fans of "wedding stuff" taking over "their garage" I quickly found out). So why not let someone else do the storing for you! You still get to enjoy beautiful and unique pieces for your wedding and then wipe your hands clean and enjoy the first full day as husband and wife!

 Reason #4- It's GREEN

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! Renting is definitely the GREEN way to go! It just doesn't make sense for new items to be purchase for every wedding when often times another bride could reuse items and customize them for their own unique wedding.

Reason #5- Setup is a breeze

Many rental companies offer delivery and setup services, which in the end could end up being priceless for you. Not only will you not have to worry about how you are going to get all that stuff to and from the venue site, it can also make the big day much more enjoyable and less stressful for you, your family and friends (who should be there enjoying this special day with you, not working up a sweat!). The rental company will ensure that any big or complex items like our giant Barn Wood Wall are setup correctly and that all the small details are in the correct place.
